Looking for good toothpaste that can take care of your children, your spouse and your parent’s oral problems? Confused with the number of brands available in market for the same? Don’t worry today I’ll tell you all about the toothpaste you can buy so that you can keep your family’s oral problems at bay.
Toothpaste sellers these days are coming up with new-new marketing strategies and play with human psychology to grab their attention and make them use their products. They hardly care about the health of consumer in the pace to grab market and earn more money. To better understand this you need to know what your mouth requires and what these companies are giving in their toothpastes.
Toothpaste has changed a lot over generations, I remember earlier toothpaste use to come in powder form, then it started coming in cream form and today it is even available as gel. But modern toothpastes (Colgate, Pepsodent, Close Up) coming in market today contains harsh chemicals that would give you a fresh and cleansed feeling but the truth is not the same as you feel. Let’s have a closer look at the ingredients of these toothpastes:
The first and foremost ingredient is fluoride. No doubt, your teeth require fluoride as it makes teeth stronger but it does not contribute in cleaning, so even a small amount can do the same work as compared to the amount supplied by these companies, because fluoride if taken in large quantity could be harmful also.
The next is foam. This is how psychology comes into action, we people believe that the more the foam toothpaste produces, better is its cleansing power. Isn’t it?? But, this is not the truth, it’s cleaning action is not dependent upon it, but companies put in more and more of products that produce foam so that consumer remains satisfied with the product.
Then is the silica, most toothpastes use hydrated silica as the grit that polishes teeth. Silica is the whitening ingredient in the whitening toothpastes coming these days which claims to get whiter and brighter teeth in just 10 or 12 days. But whitening toothpaste cannot get your teeth any whiter than a professional dental cleaning, because it only cleans the surface. Better go to a dentist to get whitening that would be more hygienic and less harsh in fact.
Next is tetra sodium pyrophosphate, an ingredient that is supposed to keep tartar from fossilizing on the back of your lower front teeth. A little tartar on your teeth doesn’t harm you unless it gets really thick and you can no longer keep it clean. One problem with tartar control toothpastes is that in order for the active ingredient to work, it has to be dissolved in a stronger detergent than usual, which can affect people that are sensitive to a high pH.
And the last is triclosan. This antimicrobial is supposed to reduce infections between the gum and tooth. However, if you just keep the germs off of your teeth in the first place it’s pretty much a waste of an extra ingredient. Its safety has been questioned but, like fluoride, the bulk of the scientific research easily demonstrates that the addition of triclosan in toothpaste does much more good than harm. But, some studies also suggest that triclosan is something that can be a cause for cancer.
Now, I think you all are aware about the ingredients of modern toothpastes better than ever. But, still feeling confused about their quantity wise requirement and the toothpaste that best contains them? Don’t worry I have prepared a rank wise list of toothpastes from the point of view of safety, their ability to keep oral problems away as well and capability to provide complete oral hygiene.
- Patanjali Dant Kanti:
One of the latest hit in the market, Patanjali Dant Kanti by Baba Ram Dev is a product of nature. It is totally herbal and natural. It contains all the natural ingredients to take care of your teeth, gums and keeps all the oral problems away. The only reason why I am rating it at number one spot is because of its 100% natural contents and that too in appropriate proportion. It has hit the market and is easily available in store near you. So, just go and change your toothpaste to Patanjali Dant Kanti if you want to go natural and enjoy a healthy mouth for years.
- Vicco Vajradanti:
Vicco – One of the oldest brands of India in the industry of herbal products also manufacture totally natural toothpaste Vicco Vajradanti. It does not contain any harmful chemicals and works even more efficiently than any chemical based toothpaste. It might not taste you good initially but trust me purchasing this could be one of the best things you can do with your mouth.
- Dabur Meswak:
Dabur – Another most popular herbal products brand is manufacturing a number of toothpastes, but Dabur Meswak toothpaste has been found to be best when it comes to toothpaste. This also completely natural prepared by herbal products with the ability to give all around protection to your mouth. This is really a good choice to go with after Vicco Vajradanti.
- Dabur Red Toothpaste:
Another great natural product of Dabur, Dabur Red toothpaste is a great natural option to go with. But why I have kept it at number four spot is because along with natural herbs it also contains some artificial/pharmaceutical ingredients to take care of oral problems. It is overall tested by dental association and is completely safe, so this could also be your next toothpaste.
Yet another product under the brand Dabur, Babool is specially formulated with the benefits of babool ‘Acacia Arabica’ extracts which is proven to give strong teeth and gums. Apart from this it is formulated with advanced pharmaceuticals to get modern toothpaste feeling, hence it is given a number five spot.
This is the list that I have prepared on the basis of self analysis of the products and by using them. The truth is the fact that chemicals will always be injurious and can never take place of nature. Why is it that our grandfather’s generation didn’t ever suffered mouth problems, why? Because they never used these colgate, pepsodent and instead they used neem barks. And that was enough. I am not totally against pharmaceutical and chemicals, but if you can have natural products, so why not to use them? Why to use something that will harm you in long run? So, consider it my plea and reconsider these points before you next time buy your toothpaste.
I’ll be waiting for your reviews after you use these products. And i would also like to hear if you have any suggestion or recommendation. So keep commenting J
