You all must be wondering what the freaking topic I am writing on today. But I am writing on this topic because recently, a 16-year-old boy wrote me and asked, “Is my masturbation habit turning me gay?” I was not amazed to hear the question, because if you’ll google the topic you’ll get 100’s of websites that are spreading the misconception wherein they are linking masturbation and sex orientation.
The answer to this question is OF COURSE NO!!! It makes you gay as much as it makes you blind!! Masturbation is perfectly natural. But because a lot of people have misinformation about both masturbation and sexual orientation, this question is actually a pretty common one.
The reason why people get into such misconceptions is no or little knowledge or the fear that they have in them that they are doing the wrong deed. I would urge such guys to just have a clear perspective regarding what is masturbation and how natural it is and what is sexual orientation.
Masturbation refers to touching your body, often your genitals, for sexual pleasure. It’s perfectly normal and healthy and something that a lot of people do throughout their lives whether they are male or female, single or in a relationship, gay or hetero, and whatever their gender identity is.
While sexual orientation on the other hand is something that is far too complex to be affected by whether or not you make yourself orgasm. (an orgasm is the release of sexual muscle tension – myotonia – that has built up during sexual arousal. Most people find orgasms really pleasurable and they are often seen as the “climax” of sex).
But while sexual orientation can affect who we want to have sex with, how we have sex is not a sign of our sexual orientation. Masturbating isn’t a sign that a person is gay, nor will it make someone gay.
The other reason that makes people develop fearful thoughts regarding masturbation is the guilty feeling people have within them regarding their masturbation habit. Sometimes people worry that masturbation is somehow wrong or bad for them. But trust me, It’s not, this is as natural as feeling tired after heavy exercise or feeling sleepy after a work full day.
It is in no ways a sign that a person is a pervert, lonely, or hard up. It’s simply a way to be sexual solo.
Some people are offended by masturbation. Others belong to cultural groups or religions that frown on touching oneself. But whatever someone’s personal belief, it’s important to know that there is no medical or emotional damage caused by masturbating. In fact, it is actually a good way to learn about your body and be sexual without risking any fear of getting pregnant or getting any sexually transmitted disease.
In addition to hearing that masturbation either means that you are gay or will make you gay (or a pervert), there are other myths about it floating around. Here are a few others:
- It is only for lonely people who can’t get a date.
- Masturbation will prevent you from enjoying sex with a partner.
- Masturbation will use up all a guy’s sperm or make a girl sterile.
- Masturbation will make you go blind.
- Masturbation causes hair to grow on your palms or give you acne.
All of these are just myths. Masturbating in control has benefits for health instead of side effects. No doubt there are side effects also related to masturbation but that depends upon your habit and frequency of masturbation. For more info regarding side effects and benefits of masturbation and what are the numbers of times you can masturbate without any side effect check my other articles.
Touching yourself is quite different that having a same sex partner touch you. Masturbation is a great way to explore your sexuality without worrying about the emotional complications that can come with partner sex.
Masturbation is also a great way to learn about your body and reduce stress. It is also a form of safer sex. That’s because you can’t contract a sexually transmitted infection from yourself. Plus, it is a good way to learn what you like and what feels good, plus, people who masturbate, are often better able to show a partner what they enjoy sexually.
Look, a lot of people masturbate and a lot don’t. But whatever you decide to do on the masturbation front is your own business and shouldn’t be based on your feelings or concerns about sexual orientation. Masturbation, like being gay, lesbian, bisexual, pansexual, or asexual, is perfectly normal. In the end I would like to end by saying in regards to the topic is “If Masturbation would have turned people gay, then at least 80% of males including me would have turned gay”
