Today I am going to give home remedies to cure what more than half of earth is suffering. Arthritis – yes, more than half of world today is suffering from arthritis in one form or the other. But, before I’ll start with the natural remedies, I would like you to know what exactly it is, because knowing the disease in itself will make you tackle it your own way.
Arthritis is a joint disorder featuring inflammation. A joint is an area of the body where two bones meet. A joint functions to allow movement of the body parts it connects. Arthritis literally means inflammation of one or more joints. Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, all of which have different causes and treatment methods. The symptoms of arthritis usually appear gradually but they may also occur suddenly. Arthritis is most commonly seen in adults over the age of 65 but it can also develop in children and teens. Osteoarthritis, the most common type of arthritis, gets worse with age and is caused by wear and tear over the years.
A doctor can prescribe medication or you can take over-the-counter pain relievers. But many people experience improvement simply by staying physically active along with one or more simple natural treatments. Some of the easiest, tried and tested natural remedies which you can try to cure your joint pain/arthritis are below:
- Reduce Weight:
The best remedy is maintaining a healthy weight, and losing weight if necessary. Your weight can make a big impact on the amount of pain you experience from arthritis. Extra weight puts more pressure on your joints—especially your knees, hips, and feet. Reducing the stress on your joints by losing weight will improve your mobility, decrease pain, and prevent future damage to your joints.
- Exercise Regularly:
People used to think that exercise made arthritis worse, but the opposite is true. There are more benefits to exercise than just weight loss. Regular movement helps to maintain flexibility in your joints. Weight-bearing exercises like running and walking can be damaging. Instead, try low-impact exercises like water aerobics or swimming to flex your joints without adding further stress.
Many people find that acupuncture helps relieve pain and disability due to arthritis; several studies have found benefit from the procedure. Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical treatment that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on your body. This is supposed to re-route energies and restore balance in your body. It is found that acupuncture has the ability to reduce arthritis pain.
Take a half-teaspoon of powdered ginger or up to 30 grams (about 6 teaspoons) of fresh ginger once a day. Research shows that ginger helps relieve arthritis pain, probably because of its ability to increase blood circulation, which ferries inflammatory chemicals away from painful joints.
- Apply Heat & Cold Therapy:
Applying heat to a painful joint can provide significant relief. For heat sources, you can use electric blankets and mitts, heating pads, or hot packs. Heat things up for 20 minutes. Simply taking a hot bath or shower can also be soothing.
Similarly, cold treatments may work equally well when joints are inflamed. Wrap an ice cube in a towel or washcloth, and press it to the sore joint. Alternatively, you can use a bag of frozen peas or corn.
- Mustard Massage:
Massaging with mustard oil is considered excellent for getting rid of arthritis pain and inflammation. The oil works as a natural ointment and stimulates blood flow. Heat some mustard oil until it is slightly warm. If there is swelling, you can mix an equal amount of onion juice, too. Rub it gently over the painful joint. Then cover the joint with plastic wrap and apply warm towels. Repeat this remedy daily before going to bed for best results.
Regular consumption of turmeric can reduce inflammation. It contains curcumin that possesses anti-inflammatory properties. It is particularly good when dealing with rheumatoid arthritis. An easy way to consume turmeric is to drink fresh turmeric juice, or a glass of milk mixed with one teaspoon of turmeric powder daily before going to bed.
- Omega-3 Fatty Acid:
Everyone needs omega-3 fatty acids in their diets for optimum health. However, these fats may also help your arthritis. Foods such as walnuts, soybeans and sprouts which are high in omega-3s, will surely help reduce joint stiffness and pain.
These are the most reliable and easy home remedies that can cure the joint pain related to arthritis. I will urge you to give these remedies a shot, because these won’t cost you much and can provide you required relief without taking costly medicines which have certain side effects also.
