How to Cure Dengue Fever : Home Remedies

Dengue fever is a virus-caused disease that is spread by mosquitoes (aedes aegypti mosquito bite) and is a dangerous disease which without the right treatment, can prove to be fatal.

Dengue fever begins with a sudden high fever, often as high as 104 – 105 degrees Fahrenheit, 4 to 7 days after the infection. It Symptoms of dengue fever include fever, rashes, muscular pain, headache, joint ache and fatigue.

A flat, red rash may appear over most of the body 2 to 5 days after the fever starts.

Dengue is not transmitted directly from person-to-person and symptoms range from mild fever, to incapacitating high fever, with severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, and rash. There is no vaccine or any specific medicine to treat dengue. However, with medications and preventive home remedies, patients can seek relief. Here are some home remedies for dengue fever.

Simple Home Remedies for Dengue Fever

The Most Effective home remedies for dengue fever are discussed which helps in treating it in the early stages itself and avoid it to become any major health concern.

Some of the effective remedies is the use barley grass, neem leaves, papaya leaves, orange juice, pomegranate juice, coriander, goldenseal, basil leaves and water.

While Neem leaves and neem oil are great purifying agent, they should be applied on a damp warm cloth regularly 2-3 times a day. Use 50-60 grams of leaves for the application. Neem oil is potent and has strong antibiotic properties.


How to use the Papaya leaves for curing dengue fever?

Firstly remember to choose papaya leaves that are not too old, neither too young. Now cut down the leafy part and remove the stalk. Wash the leaves well with water. After washing them, crush the leaves using a wooden mortar and pestle without any additives like water, salt or sugar. Crush the leaves and squeeze out the juice from it and drink that twice a day. To preserve its strength, the juice should be taken raw, without altering, boiling or any additions.

Usually, one leaf gives one tablespoonful of juice and two tablespoonfuls of p-juice is sufficient for a day. The powerful ‘Papain’ enzyme in the papaya leaf has the ability to dissolve proteins and is already used for indigestion and stomach inflammation while another enzyme from the papaya leaf, ‘Chymopapain’ is used successfully in spinal treatment.

The young leaves from a fruit bearing papaya plant should be used and also the leaves of the Red Lady papaya plant (found commonly in India) are more effective.

Orange Juice

The juice of an orange or any other citrus fruit is said to be effective in controlling dengue fever since it hydrate the body and increase the urinary output thus helping the germs to be flushed out of the body. Moreover oranges are packed with immunity boosting vitamin C that helps to raise the immunity and prevent further outbreaks of dengue fever. Having 2-3 glasses of orange juice is beneficial.

Pomegranate Juice

Juice of pomegranate or even the fruit had raw is very beneficial for dengue fever as it helps in increasing the blood count thus reducing the feelings of fatigue and exhaustion.


Some Health Points to remember

Avoid eating solid foods until the fever is gone. You can replace the foods by drinking plenty of distilled water and/or juices.

Drink as much water as you can in order to replace fluid loss. It will also help to bring down body temperature. Try to up your intake of water especially if you are running a high temperature. The water will cool your insides and also flush out toxins.

You can also take other fluids like juices, soups and coconut water, which are good sources of energy.

The leaves of the coriander can be taken in the form of a tonic to reduce the fevers in dengue.

Fruits rich in vitamin C like amla (embellica officinalis) are advised as vitamin C helps in better absorption of iron.

Chyavanprash can be taken as it is an immune booster, blood purifier and increases blood count.

Boiled tulsi, that is basil leaves served in a warm drink like tea can help prevent an outbreak of dengue. This bitter and pungent herb has all the properties that strengthen the internal system against fever.

10-15 basil leaves should be chewed twice a day or these can be boiled in 200ml water on low heat. When half the quantity is left it can be taken 2-3 times a day. This strengthens the body’s defence mechanism.

Papaya juice is a natural cure for dengue fever. The juice of Papaya leaf is a sure cure for platelets deficiency.

To increase the blood count pomegranate juice/ black grape juice should be given.

However, for dengue fever, a caution is given by most doctors regarding home treatment. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents (for example, aspirin (Bayer, Ecotrin), ibuprofen (Motrin), and other NSAIDs) should be avoided because of the tendency of the dengue viruses to cause hemorrhages.

Try Home remedies for one or two days only.

If the Fever still persists, always visit doctor and consult him for further treatment and diagnosis if required.
